The running of the Hall
The Hall is run by a dedicated team of Volunteers. Our goal is to retain and maintain the Hall as a resource for everyone in the Village.
History of the Hall
- The Hall was closed by East Dunbartonshire Council on Monday 22nd March 2004 at 1.30am.
- Public Meetings were very well attended by Villagers to discuss the best way of protesting against the closure.
- The protests gathered momentum, thanks to the hard work and dedication by all, ably led my Councillor Charles Kennedy.
- East Dunbartonshire Council finally gave into pressure and agreement was reached between David Stirling and John Morrison (Council Leader) on the return of the hall.
- Ownership of the Hall transferred to a newly formed Trust, made up of the following;
David Stirling, Marigold Langley, John Lyons MP and Dr Jean Turner MP - A Management Committee, consisting of Volunteers was formed on the 11th October 2004, this Committee was charged with the running of the Hall on a viable Business Footing.
Looking Ahead...
- The Hall's usage is gradually increasing to levels seen before the closure.
- The Committee would like to thank everyone who was involved in the fight to re-open the Hall. If there had been no protest the Hall would not be open now.
